Stanford's Programming Paradigms course, taught by Jerry Cain, surveys major programming paradigms such as imperative, object-oriented, and functional styles and how language design relates to them. It moves through languages like C and Python, using each to illustrate the paradigms it fits best.
Commenters call it an incredible course that greatly improved their programming insight and helped them grasp pointers, with Jerry Cain praised for explaining ideas clearly.

It's weird that I'd be the one to point it out, but you don't get all paradigms of programming in one language. In fact, dealing with some concepts via language convention is a market feature (sometimes). Some languages work better, some less for certain ideas. I can hardly recommend anything…
I went through Programming Paradigms from Stanford twice. Great course, really helped me grasp pointers.
There is a series of lectures that was given at Google. http://www.catonmat.net/blog/learning-python-programming-language-through-video-lectures/ It is geared towards people who have already had programming experience, but it may help if you are an audio-visual learner. For basic tenets of…
