Learn Python the Hard Way is a free online introductory Python course by Zed Shaw, built around short exercises where learners write and run code. Paid video versions are also mentioned in the comments.
Commenters call it a good, highly regarded intro to Python that teaches by actually doing things and explains concepts better than Codecademy.

I'd highly recommend starting out with Learn Python the Hard Way (LPTHW). LPTHW will help her understand the basics of Python programming and start her off with the correct mindset for programming. LPTHW will help her understand how to approach code analytically and break down problems into…
I really don't like codecademy. I'm new to programming and I regularly got frustrated and confused with it. For python so far I've found LearnPythonTheHardWay explains things much better than codecademy. I actually found codecademy harder than learnpythonthehardway. Not sure about the HTML course…
If you already know Python, check out course.fast.ai. If you don't know Python, check out Learn Python the Hard Way.
The problem with programming is that you may not realize you’re making mistakes and pick up a lot of bad habits. So I also recommend doing a full course on UDemy or Lynda to get a good ground work. Learn Python the hard way is also great, can be read online for free.
The other suggestions here are really good (I have watched a lot of Udemy courses), but don't forget to check for resources that might be offered by your college or your local library. A good number of them will offer free subscriptions to learning platforms like Lynda.com. Also, there are tons of…
Learn Python the Hard Way is not so much a tutorial, but it's highly regarded by a lot of people. Or, rather, I see it recommended a lot. Also, edX has a couple of introductory courses for computer science that use Python as the language of choice (See: Harvey Mudd and MIT). There are also a few…
Python is a common beginner language, and have a lot of beginner material. I learned python mainly from MIT's courses on EdX.org. Learn Python The Hard Way is often recommended for beginners, and I have only heard good about it (even if many would disagree with Zed Shaw's opinion on python 3)…
Hey, I had no prior programming experience when i took Zed's LPTHW course (well i only knew HTML and CSS) and it was hard for me at first too. But You should take it slowly, try to break problems apart. Hell, i know it sounds stupid but take a paper and a pen and try to draw what You want to do…
Some resources I highly recommend: Start with learn Python the Hard Way, then quickly roll through Google's course on Python, which has homework-like assignments: https://developers.google.com/edu/python/introduction Think Python, in addition to being great general Python learning, was the first…
Well, if you are interested in keeping on with JavaScript, as stated in my previous comment I would recommend EloquentJavascript. I only tried the first three or four chapters, but it has a nicely made interactive website and the teaching is a lot better than I've seen from other online sources…
Just run through Learn Python the Hard Way or have him take classes on Udacity which uses Python for everything.
