Codecademy's guided web development path teaches the basics of building websites, starting with HTML, CSS and JavaScript and moving toward more complete front-end and back-end projects. It is delivered as interactive exercises in the browser.
Commenters describe it as an amazing free starting point and say it was where they typed their first HTML, CSS and JS, with one calling it the best return on a $150 spend.
