A lecture series from The Great Courses on how the Bolsheviks rose to power in Russia, covering the events and figures behind the 1917 revolution and the consolidation of Bolshevik rule.
One commenter recommends it as useful background for understanding Russian revolutionary history, pairing it with a similar course on Mao's China.

I'd suggest reading up on the rise the Bolsheviks in Russia and Mao in China if you want to have some context for what these people are talking about. The Great Courses offers some great lectures on both subjects.
