An introductory MITx MOOC teaching programming and computer science using Python, covering core concepts through weekly problem sets and exercises. Commenters describe it as a gentler starting point than Harvard's CS50 for those new to programming.
Commenters call it the easier, more beginner-friendly intro to programming, with challenging problem sets and good pacing, and say it sets you up to write small scripts on your own.
